Why ski Chile in July & August?
Chile’s winter aligns with summer vacations in the US and Europe. Valle Nevado offers high-altitude, dry snow and extensive groomed terrain — ideal for technical skiing and carving camps. It is the largest ski area in the Southern Hemisphere.
Getting there
- Fly to Santiago (SCL) — direct flights from several US hubs; Europeans often connect via Madrid or São Paulo.
- Valle Nevado is ~46 km from Santiago; allow 1.5–2 hours by mountain road (conditions vary).
- SkiCamp Chile includes resort transfers during camp dates; arrive in Santiago at least one day early.
Altitude & conditions
Base areas sit around 2,800–3,025 m. Hydrate, use SPF 50+, and pace yourself the first day. Weather can shift quickly — pack a shell, goggles, and layers.
Packing checklist
- Own ski boots (recommended for Carv sensor fit)
- Helmet, goggles, gloves, base layers
- Passport valid 6+ months; check Chile entry rules for your nationality
- Travel insurance with medical and cancellation coverage
Carving camp vs resort lessons
Resort group lessons suit general improvement. A dedicated carving camp with max 6 skiers, daily video analysis, and Carv feedback is built for skiers who want measurable technical progress in one week.
